CBEST stands for California Basic Educational Skills Test™

The purpose of the CBEST is to assess and verify acceptable proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics skills in the English language, basic educational skills that are needed and used by all school practitioners.  As required by law, the test provides separate scores in each of these three areas. The scores provide overall indications of adequate proficiency (Pass) or inadequate proficiency (not Pass). The test is not a measure of teaching skills or abilities.
